CWC during the Columbus Arts Festival Friday, June 6, 7 PM
Come hear the Columbus Women's Chorus alongside other Columbus area choirs in a Choral Festival Concert at First Congregational Church, 444 E Broad Street, Columbus, in the heart of the new downtown location for the Columbus Arts Festival. Over 100 singers and drummers are coming together to perform Missa Luba, a high-energy Congolese style mass, and the concert will also feature separate short performances by the Columbus Women's Chorus and other choirs. All proceeds will go to benefit Doctors Without Borders, a medical relief organization that works throughout Africa.
Missa Luba is a Congolese style Mass, written by Father Guido Haazen, a Belgian missionary in the Congo in the 1950s, who wrote it for the choir that he founded there. Missa Luba is scored for voices, drums, and tenor solo, and uses African style call and response, and other traditional singing patterns.
This performance of Missa Luba is kindly sponsored by OCDA (Ohio Choral Directors Association), the Columbus Women’s Chorus, the Columbus Children’s Choir, and First Congregational Church, Columbus.
Calling all singers: click here if you are interested in joining in the performance of Missa Luba
This concert is generously supported by the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC).
The chorus meets every Monday from September through June. We rehearse in Clintonville at First Unitarian Universalist Church which is wheelchair accessible, centrally located and on the bus line.
